A collapse in a Buenos Aires residential complex affected basement columns. 300 families were evacuated following an incident involving a potential risk to the structural integrity of the buildings.

Collapse in Buenos Aires Residential Complex

A collapse occurred in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Parque Patricios, affecting the columns of the basement and the ground floor of the buildings in the residential complex. This is indicated in the official report prepared by the Fire Department, Civil Defense, and the Auxiliary Guard, who worked at the scene. According to the preliminary technical analysis accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the focus of the incident was on the slab located in the basement parking lot of the Estación Buenos Aires in Parque Patricios, at Mafalda 907, where 175 apartments in the four adjacent buildings were evacuated. As a result of the incident, 300 families were evacuated, and a 38-year-old woman was given oxygen on the spot—because she refused to be transferred to Penna Hospital. Likewise, the city communication determined that there is a potential structural risk, as the slab was connected to the columns and provided them with rigidity, preventing them from bending. Evacuated people will not be able to return to their apartments until the construction company and the administrator in charge urgently carry out a plan for structural safety recomposition in the affected areas. The first alert came via a 911 call at 4:45 AM on March 3rd.
